Short answer

Rolex does not publish a Submariner with the reference 126617LB. The catalog for the 41 mm Submariner Date lists 126610 (steel), 126613 (steel and yellow gold), 126618 (yellow gold) and 126619 (white gold). The two-tone blue model is 126613LB. Sellers use 126617LB as a listing label for the same look. The buyer gets a copy of a steel-and-gold Submariner Date with a blue dial, a blue ceramic bezel and a 41 mm case.

How the reference number breaks down

  • 1266 marks the Submariner Date case in 41 mm.
  • 1, 3, 8, 9 mark the metal. 126610 is steel. 126613 is steel plus 18 kt yellow gold. 126618 is yellow gold. 126619 is white gold.
  • LB means blue dial and blue bezel insert. LN means black.

The 40 mm generation used the code 116613LB. Rolex moved the case to 41 mm in 2020 and changed the first four digits to 1266. A listing that mixes 1266 with 17 does not match a Rolex price sheet.

Where replicas diverge

Case and metal

The genuine watch carries 18 kt gold mid-links and a gold crown. Replicas use gold plating or gold wrap. Sellers quote plating of 3 to 5 microns. At that thickness the layer wears at the clasp, the crown and the link edges. Case thickness shows up in photos. The genuine 41 mm case measures about 12.4 mm at the center.

Bezel insert

The genuine Cerachrom insert is solid ceramic with numerals filled by a PVD gold layer. Replicas use ceramic with printed or plated markers. Blue tone varies between copies. Alignment of the triangle at 12 o'clock is a second check.

Dial and hands

Genuine dial text holds a sharp edge under 10x magnification. Replica text thickens or blurs. Rolex describes Chromalight as a long-lasting blue glow. Copies often glow green and fade in 30 to 60 minutes. The Cyclops lens on the genuine watch carries an anti-reflective coating. Many replicas show a blue tint or a hard reflection instead.

Movement

Genuine caliber 3235 runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 70-hour reserve. Replicas use Chinese clone movements sold as VR3235 or SA3235. Rate and amplitude on those movements drift outside the Rolex standard. A timegrapher reading is the check. The 70-hour figure on a clone is a listing claim, not a tested result.

Bracelet and clasp

The Oysterlock clasp has a crown logo and a three-position Glidelock. Genuine link end pieces sit flush with the case. Copies show gaps at the lugs and a softer sound at the clasp blade.

What the number does not tell a buyer

Two watches with the same case code can differ in grade. Sellers use "AAA," "1:1" and "super clone" with no shared standard. Price bands run near $100 for a basic copy and up to about $1,200 for a top-tier copy with a clone movement. No band comes close to the $15,000 Rolex figure.

Legal and practical notes

A counterfeit watch infringes the Rolex trademark. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit shipments at entry. Federal law sets civil and criminal penalties for trafficking in counterfeit goods. Rolex does not service a replica, and parts do not interchange with the genuine caliber 3235. Resale platforms remove such listings. Water resistance claims on replica listings have no pressure test behind them.
