Short answer
A replica Radiomir Goldtech is a copy of Panerai's Radiomir 1940 case in the Goldtech alloy. Goldtech is 18k gold mixed with copper and platinum. Genuine cases are solid gold. Almost every replica uses steel or brass with a gold coating. That difference sets weight, color, and price.
Goldtech alloy vs gold plating
Panerai lists Goldtech as an 18k gold alloy with copper for a red tone and platinum to slow oxidation. Gold content is 75 percent, marked 750. A solid gold case weighs more than a steel case of the same size. Copies use electroplating or PVD at 2 to 5 microns. Plating rubs off at the lugs, crown, and caseback edge. A magnet test on the caseback shows steel. A scale shows the gap.
Case and dial
Radiomir 1940 cases come in 42mm and 45mm. The shape is a cushion with a flat bezel. Radiomir 1940 models use thick lugs; the older Radiomir uses wire lugs. Dials are sandwich type: two plates with cut numerals and a lume layer between them. Check numeral shape, font weight, and lume color. Genuine lume is pale cream, not orange. Date windows sit at 3 o'clock. Crowns are screw down cones on most 1940 references.
Movements in copies
Genuine Goldtech Radiomir watches run the P.4000 automatic with a micro rotor, or the P.9010. Both give about 3 days of power reserve. Replicas use Seagull ST2555, Asia 7750, or Miyota 9015. Some hand wind copies of the P.3000 exist. Copies run 40 to 60 hours. A micro rotor copy is rare and adds cost.
Weight, water, wear
Ask for the case weight in grams. Compare two units from the same seller. A spread of 10 g or more points to different case blanks. Replicas are not tested to ISO 22810. A 5 ATM label on a copy means nothing verified. Do not swim or shower in one. Gold plating wears at contact points within months of daily use.
Price bands
- $150 to $300: plated case, basic automatic or quartz, printed dial.
- $300 to $600: better plating, Seagull or Miyota movement, sandwich dial.
- $600 to $1,200: thicker plating, decorated rotor, closer case shape.
Genuine Goldtech Radiomir models list above $20,000 at retail. Second hand prices track gold spot plus the model.
Questions for the seller
- Case metal and plating thickness in microns.
- Movement maker and model number.
- Measured diameter, lug width, and thickness.
- Case weight in grams.
- Return window and payment method.
Limits
No replica holds resale value. Panerai will not service one. Gold content is not certified unless an assay is done. Treat the watch as a costume piece with a mechanical movement.
