Short answer

Replica IW376068 is a Chinese-made copy of an IWC chronograph. Good examples sell for $300 to $600. Cheap ones sell for $120 to $200. The price gap shows up in three places: the movement, the dial printing, and the date wheel. Measure the case and test the chronograph before you pay.

The reference number

IWC reference numbers use four digits plus a two-digit variant code. IW376068 reads as family 3760 and variant 68. IWC used the 376x block for chronograph models. Confirm the model name, case metal, and case diameter from the caseback text and from IWC's own records before you accept a seller's description. Replica listings often quote a number that matches no IWC catalog entry.

What varies between replicas

  • Movement: Asia 7750 automatic, Seagull ST19 hand-wind, or a decorated clone sold as Swiss.
  • Case diameter: 40 mm to 44 mm, set by the factory that copied it.
  • Case metal: 316L steel, 904L steel, or titanium-look coating.
  • Dial: printed markers against applied markers, subdial spacing, date font.
  • Crystal: sapphire with single or double anti-reflective coating.
  • Water resistance: untested on most builds. Gaskets on cheap cases leak.

Movement checks

Ask for a photo of the movement. An Asia 7750 runs at 28,800 vph and holds a 40 to 45 hour power reserve. A rotor engraved with IWC text does not make it a Swiss movement. If a seller claims a Swiss ETA 7750, ask for a photo of the stamp. ETA stamps sit under the balance wheel.

Start, stop, and reset the chronograph. The reset pusher should snap back to zero. A soft reset or a grinding feel points to a worn cam or rough finishing.

Case and dial checks

Measure the case with calipers and compare against the spec for the real reference. Check lug width. A 22 mm lug on a watch sold as a 20 mm model is a mismatch.

Look at the date window under a loupe. Low-grade copies use a font that runs wide or bold. Check subdial hand positions at 12 o'clock. Weak builds sit off center.

Turn the watch in light. Sapphire with no coating looks flat. Coating on the outside of the crystal scratches and holds smudges.

Price bands

  • $120 to $200: quartz or low-grade automatic, mineral glass, plated case.
  • $250 to $400: Asia 7750, sapphire crystal, 316L case, clean dial print.
  • $450 to $700: better dial, AR coating, bracelet with solid end links, Swiss movement claims.

Above $700 the extra money buys finishing, not accuracy. No replica carries an IWC warranty. No IWC service center will touch one.

Red flags

  • Seller will not send movement photos.
  • Price under $150 with Swiss movement in the title.
  • No return window, or a return shipping cost near the price of the watch.
  • Water resistance claims with no test pressure listed.
  • A reference number that IWC does not list.

Ownership and service

Asia 7750 movements leave the factory with thin oil. Plan on a clean and oil service at some point. A watchmaker charges $80 to $150 for that work. Parts are common and cheap. Replace gaskets before any contact with water.

Resale value is low. A used replica sells for half its purchase price at best. Treat the money as spent.
