How clones differ
Clone prices run from about $150 to $700 USD. The parts that differ most are the parts a buyer cannot see from two feet away.
- Moon phase disc. Low-cost copies use a 24-hour disc that turns once per day. A lunar month is 29.5 days. The disc on a real 6654 turns once per lunar month.
- Movement. Copies use Chinese automatic calibers, often a Seagull ST16 or ST21 base, or a modified caliber with a calendar module added. Power reserve on these is 36 to 45 hours, not 72.
- Finishing. Bridges on the 6654 are hand-finished. Clone bridges show machine marks and thin plating.
- Case and strap. Clones use lower steel grades. Gold clones are plated base metal, not solid gold.
- Water resistance. Clone cases are sealed without pressure testing. A depth rating in a listing is a claim, not a test result.
- Service. Blancpain service centers do not service counterfeits. Parts for clones come from the same sellers.
Legal status in the United States
Selling or trafficking counterfeit goods is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 2320. A first offense by an individual carries up to 10 years in prison and a $2,000,000 fine. Import is barred by 19 U.S.C. 1526. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit parcels, including single shipments for personal use, and destroys the goods. The buyer loses the money and the watch.

- Time the moon phase. Photograph the disc, wait 24 hours, and compare. A 24-hour disc moves a full step. A lunar disc moves about 1/29.5 of the cycle.
- Time the power reserve. Wind until the crown stops, set the watch down, and note when it halts. A 6654 runs about 72 hours.
- Read the caseback. Genuine rotors carry the brand name, the caliber number, and a serial that matches brand records.
- Ask for service records. A clone has none. Blancpain records name the watch and the work done.
- Check the correctors. The 6654 has three pushers under the lugs. Many clones use one recessed button or none.
What the word clone does not mean
A clone does not mean an identical movement. The term comes from sellers and has no standard. Two watches sold as the same clone can hold different movements, cases, and dials. Labels such as 1:1, AAA, and super clone carry no grading body behind them.
What is unknown
Factory output and part sources change. A clone sold this year may share no parts with one sold last year. No public source lists the movement inside every clone. A buyer who needs to know the movement has to open the caseback and read the engravings on the rotor and bridges.
