The phrase "fake rolex green sub" describes a counterfeit Rolex Submariner with a green bezel. Rolex made three such Submariner Date models: the 16610LV from 2003, the 116610LV from 2010, and the 126610LV from 2020. A counterfeit copies the dial color and the case outline. It does not copy the in-house movement, the Oystersteel case, or the ceramic bezel insert. Genuine green Submariners trade above list price. Counterfeits sell for $50 to $900 and hold no resale value.

The three green Submariner references

  • 16610LV. Released in 2003 for the Submariner 50th anniversary. Green aluminum bezel insert, black dial, 40 mm steel case, caliber 3135.
  • 116610LV. Released in 2010. Green Cerachrom ceramic bezel, green dial, 40 mm case, caliber 3135. Discontinued in 2020.
  • 126610LV. Released in 2020. Green Cerachrom bezel, black dial, 41 mm case, caliber 3235, 70-hour power reserve, 300 m water resistance.

What counterfeit versions miss

Fake green Subs at the $100 to $400 price point use third-party movements, most from Asia. A few sellers fit Swiss ETA or Sellita movements and charge $600 to $900. Common gaps:

  • Movement service. Rolex service centers do not work on watches with non-Rolex movements.
  • Bezel insert. The real Cerachrom insert is one piece of ceramic. Numerals on the real parts carry a platinum layer. Many fakes use painted metal or coated ceramic.
  • Date magnification. Rolex uses a 2.5x cyclops lens. Many fakes sit between 1.5x and 2x.
  • Dial print. Text on a real dial is flat and sharp. Fake print shows thick edges under a loupe.
  • End link fit. Solid end links sit flush against the lugs on the real watch. Gaps and play point to a fake.
  • Engraving. The reference and serial between the lugs are cut deep on a real case. Fakes show shallow laser marks.

Prices

Genuine green Submariners sell above retail on the secondhand market, and prices change with the market. A full-set 116610LV moved between about $16,000 and $30,000 over the past five years. The 126610LV trades below the Hulk. A 16610LV depends on its insert, since aluminum bezels fade to a yellow-green on some examples. Counterfeits have no resale market. Auction houses, authorized dealers, and pawn shops will not buy them.

Legal status in the US

Counterfeit watches are illegal to sell and illegal to import. 18 U.S.C. Section 2320 sets a prison term of up to 10 years for a first trafficking offense and up to 20 years for a repeat offense. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit merchandise at ports of entry and states that the goods are subject to forfeiture. A buyer who imports a fake watch loses the watch and the money paid.

How to check a green Sub

  1. Read the reference from the case at 12 o'clock, between the lugs. 16610LV and 116610LV use a 40 mm case. The 126610LV uses 41 mm.
  2. Check the date window with a jeweler's loupe. 2.5x on the real lens.
  3. Look at the bezel. Green aluminum means 16610LV. Green ceramic with a green dial means 116610LV. Green ceramic with a black dial means 126610LV.
  4. Skip the weight test. Bracelet sizing and aftermarket links change the number.
  5. Ask for the warranty card, box, and service history. Rolex keeps service records by serial, and a Rolex service center will not service a counterfeit.

Refusal by a service center is not proof by itself. Older cases, missing parts, and prior work by non-Rolex watchmakers also cause refusals. Model-specific checks plus paperwork are a better test than any single feature.
