Breguet launched the Reine de Naples line in 2002. The shape comes from a watch Abraham-Louis Breguet delivered in 1812 to Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples and sister of Napoleon. That order is the first recorded wristwatch.
Ref. 8908 has an oval case in 18k rose gold or 18k white gold. Breguet lists the case at 36.5 mm by 28.45 mm. The dial is natural mother-of-pearl with Roman numerals. A moon phase aperture sits on the dial. Water resistance is 30 m. The strap is alligator. Retail sits between $30,000 and $45,000. Diamond-set versions cost more.

- Moon phase. Low-cost copies use a 24-hour day and night disc. The genuine disc turns through one cycle in 29.5 days, the length of a synodic month.
- Movement. Breguet builds the calibre in house and finishes it by hand. Copies use Chinese or Japanese ebauches with engraved rotor text.
- Case metal. Copies use steel or brass with plating. Gold hallmarks on the case back are missing or wrong.
- Dial. Mother-of-pearl on copies is thin. The cut at the oval edge shows gaps.
- Numbers. Breguet engraves a serial number and a reference number and keeps both in factory records. Copies repeat the same numbers across batches.
How to check a watch
- Ask Breguet to check the serial number against factory records.
- Set the moon phase and track it for 30 days. A real moon phase moves about 1/29.5 of a cycle per day.
- Find the crown. Reine de Naples cases place the crown at 4 o'clock.
- Check the price. An 18k 8908 under $25,000 from a private seller needs proof of origin.
Legal status in the US
Counterfeit watches are illegal to import under 19 U.S.C. § 1526. CBP officers seize shipments and destroy the goods. Selling counterfeits violates the Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1114. Trafficking in counterfeit goods carries up to 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine for a first offense under 18 U.S.C. § 2320.
