A fake Omega Seamaster 300 41mm shows up in four places: the serial number, the movement beat rate, the caseback and bezel finish, and the cards that ship with the watch. The 41mm Seamaster 300 came in two generations, 2014 (calibre 8400) and 2021 (calibre 8912). Fakes of both exist. No single check proves a watch. Three or four together do.

What the real watch is

  • Case diameter 41mm. Water resistance 300m.
  • 2014 generation: reference numbers start 233.30, calibre 8400 Master Co-Axial, 25,200 vph (3.5 Hz), no date.
  • 2021 generation: reference numbers start 234.30, calibre 8912, Master Chronometer, 25,200 vph, no date.
  • Unidirectional dive bezel with a ceramic insert and a lume pip in the triangle at 12.
  • METAS Master Chronometer spec: 0 to +5 seconds per day and resistance to 15,000 gauss.

Exact reference numbers change with the bracelet or strap fitted. Check the number against the case, not against a photo.

Check 1: serial numbers must match

Omega engraves an 8-digit serial on the case, between the lugs at 12 o'clock or on the case side, and repeats it on the movement. The two numbers must be identical. Counterfeits often reuse one number, or a number that appears in many online listings. A Master Chronometer card carries a code that ties to the same watch. Omega service centers can confirm a serial against the production record.

Check 2: movement beat rate

Calibres 8400 and 8912 run at 25,200 vibrations per hour, which is 3.5 Hz. Many fakes use a 28,800 vph (4 Hz) copy movement or a lower rate. A watchmaker with a timegrapher reads the rate in under a minute. The same tool shows rate deviation. A watch that runs at +12 seconds per day sits outside the METAS window.

Check 3: case, crystal, and caseback

  • Omega etches a small omega symbol into the center of the sapphire crystal. It shows under angled light.
  • Caseback engraving on a real watch is cut with sharp edges and even depth. Stamped text on a fake looks shallow and soft at the edges. Omega changed the caseback design between the 2014 and 2021 versions, so compare against the correct reference.
  • The screw-down crown seats with a defined stop. Threads on fakes cross or feel rough.
  • Lug chamfers are polished, and the brushed faces meet the polish on a straight line.

Check 4: bezel and dial

The bezel insert is ceramic. The lume pip sits level inside the triangle at 12 on a real insert. On fakes the pip sits high, low, or off-center. The 2021 dial uses a sandwich build with recessed hour markers. The seconds hand carries a lollipop dot. Neither generation has a date window. A date at 3 o'clock means the watch copies a different model.

Check 5: paperwork and price

From 2021 the Seamaster 300 ships as a Master Chronometer with a METAS test card and a pictograms card. Numbers on both match the watch. Omega moved to a 5-year movement warranty in 2018. A seller who cannot show those cards carries risk. Offers far under dealer list also point at a counterfeit.

Where hand checks stop

Good fakes copy dial text, hands, and case profile. Weight, lume color, and end-link fit are closer now than they were in 2015. Handling a watch in person is not proof. A watchmaker with a timegrapher and caseback tools, or an Omega service center, gives a firm answer.
