Fakes of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre exist. They are rare next to Rolex or Panerai copies. The movement is the reason. The Duomètre runs the Dual-Wing calibre, which has two separate gear trains and two barrels. Replica factories do not build that. Most watches sold as Duomètre replicas hold one automatic movement and two painted power-reserve dials. Those two dials are the first thing to check.

What the Duomètre is

Jaeger-LeCoultre launched the Duomètre line in 2007. Each watch has two barrels. One barrel drives the time display. The second barrel drives the complication, which can be a chronograph, a calendar, or a tourbillon. Each barrel stores about 50 hours of power. The two trains share one balance and one escapement. Jaeger-LeCoultre calls the layout Dual-Wing.

Calibre numbers change with the model. Calibre 380 runs the Duomètre à Chronographe. Calibre 381 runs the Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire. Calibre 382 runs the Sphérotourbillon. Calibre 383 runs the Unique Travel Time.

Checks in order

  1. Power reserve indicators. A real Duomètre has two. Wind the watch and watch the needles. On a fake, both needles move together, or one needle never moves at all.
  2. Caseback. Real Duomètres carry a sapphire back that shows the twin gear train, Geneva stripes, and blued screws. A solid back with laser engraving points to a copy.
  3. Dial furniture. Indices are applied metal on the real watch. Printed indices, soft text, and off-center subdials point to a copy.
  4. Case metal. The line ships in rose gold, white gold, and platinum. A steel case with a Duomètre dial does not match the catalog.
  5. Price. New Duomètres sell above $40,000. Used examples sit in the tens of thousands of dollars. A $400 watch is not a Duomètre.
  6. Papers. Real watches ship with a certificate and access to the Jaeger-LeCoultre 8-year warranty program.

What is not known

No public figure exists for how many Duomètre fakes sit in circulation. High-complication fakes move slower than steel sports copies, so volume is low. A watchmaker with the caseback open settles the question faster than any photo check.
