Short answer
IW93835 is not a reference number in IWC's published catalog. IWC uses the prefix IW plus five or six digits, as in IW3716, IW3289, and IW3881. Listings that carry "IW93835" come from replica sellers. Treat it as a seller batch label, not a factory reference.
What the string looks like
IW93835 has two letters and five digits. Genuine IWC references in current production run to five or six digits, so the shape is close. The digits do not map to a model name, a case size, or a caliber in any IWC catalog, press release, or dealer inventory I can reach. I could not find one IWC source that uses the number. That gap is the point to note: sellers copy the format and swap the digits.
Why sellers use codes like this
- Grouping: one code lets a seller sort batches by case, dial color, and movement grade.
- Search: buyers who see the code on a listing page search the code again. The listing gains traffic.
- Avoidance: a code that matches no real model is harder for brand owners and marketplaces to flag.
Checks before you buy
- Case size. Ask for caliper photos in millimeters for diameter, thickness, and lug width. IWC Pilot's Chronograph cases measure 41 mm or 43 mm. A 39 mm case with a chronograph dial is a mismatch.
- Movement. Ask for the caliber number on the rotor and a short video of the seconds hand sweep. IWC uses in-house calibers such as the 69380 and the 32111. Third-party movements carry their own stamps.
- Dial print. Check the weight and spacing of the numerals, the placement of "Schaffhausen", and date window alignment.
- Caseback. Look at engraving depth, font, and the serial line. Genuine casebacks use fine laser etching.
- Weight. A steel IWC chronograph on a bracelet sits near 150 g. Ask the seller to weigh the watch.
Price ranges
Replica IWC chronographs sell between about $250 and $900. Movement grade, case material, and crystal type drive the spread. Genuine IWC chronographs list between about $5,500 and $12,000 new. I cannot confirm live prices. Auction results and dealer quotes are the better source.
How to verify a reference
Search the number on iwc.com, on WatchBase, and with an authorized dealer. If the number returns marketplace pages but nothing from the brand, the number is not a brand reference.
Legal status in the US
19 U.S.C. 1526 bars import of goods that carry a counterfeit mark. CBP seizes such shipments and can assess penalties. Resale of counterfeit watches carries separate exposure under trademark law.
